Nach dem Debakel bei der ersten, öffentlichen Produktpräsentation stellt Helmut Hoffer Von Ankershoffen sein WePad in diesem Video der Internetöffentlichkeit vor:

Hier gibt es noch Part 2.

Ein paar Gedanken dazu:

  • Es ist etwas peinlich, wie der Herr CEO die ganze Zeit in Richtung Apple basht.
  • Wie ein eifersüchtiger Schuljunge wird da erklärt, dass das “Multitasking” im nächsten iPhone OS gar kein Multitasking ist. Who cares?
  • Insbesondere bei Punkten, die vom iPad per se nicht abgedeckt werden (Musik vom USB-Stick abspielen – das ist, als würde ein Geländewagenhersteller sein Auto am Berg mit einem Lotus GT vergleichen – die Stärken und Schwächen liegen einfach in verschiedenen Bereichen).
  • Diese Seitennavigation, die ja so innovativ sein soll und dafür sorgt, dass man “das Gerät nicht aus der Hand legen muss” (im Gegensatz zum, wie könnte es anders sein, iPad), mag mich in dem Video nicht überzeugen. Ich glaube nicht, dass ich ein Pad (Ei oder We) die ganze Zeit wie ein Lenkrad halten möchte. Das ganze “Per touch durchs Internet surfen”-Erlebnis basiert für mich darauf, dass ich die Seite “anfassen” kann.
  • Der Touchscreen scheint nicht so gut anzusprechen. Es ist gibt in den 20 Minuten Video-Material zahlreiche Stellen, an denen Herr von Ankershoffen bspw. 5mal auf den YouTube-Play-Button drücken muss, bis der “Klick” wirklich ankommt (und das liegt nicht an Flash, am Ende des zweiten Videos versucht er das drunterliegende Linux zu bedienen und scheitert ebenfalls fast).

Abschließend folgender Gedanke:
Scheinbar hat man sich beim WePad darauf konzentriert, auf dem Papier besser als Apple sein zu müssen. Das halte ich für einen gefährlichen Ansatz, der schnell auf Kosten des Gesamterlebnisses geht. Aber: Es ist völlig egal, was ich und alle anderen darüber schreiben: Sowohl das iPad als auch das WePad müssen erst noch am deutschen Markt eingeführt werden und schließlich im Alltag und in der Konsumentengunst bestehen.

Denn der Konsument wird über den Erfolg oder Misserfolg beider Produkte entscheiden.
